Lubing the chain

A little of the right lube; too much collects dirt.

When?

  • The chain is dry or squeaks
  • After a wet ride
  • After cleaning

How?

  1. Clean the chain with a dry cloth first.
  2. Turn the pedals backwards and put a drop of bicycle chain lube on each link.
  3. After a few minutes, wipe off the excess.
  4. Keep lube away from discs and rim braking surfaces.

What does it depend on?

How often depends on how much and where you ride, the weather, the component and the manufacturer’s instructions. Instead of a fixed schedule, look for the signs above.
