A full clean

A clean bike runs quieter and makes problems easier to spot.

This guide is compiled from manufacturer manuals and well-known bike care sources; it has not been reviewed by a mechanic. You can confirm the information with reliable sources and with our store. When in doubt about safety, don’t ride.

When?

  • Built-up dirt
  • Noise from gears and brakes

How?

  1. Use a soft brush, plenty of water and a bike-safe cleaner.
  2. Keep cleaners and oil off discs and braking surfaces.
  3. Dry the bike, then lube the chain.

What does it depend on?

How often depends on how much and where you ride, the weather, the component and the manufacturer’s instructions. Instead of a fixed schedule, look for the signs above.
