Lights, reflectors and bell

Being seen at dusk and in tunnels matters as much as good brakes.

This guide is compiled from manufacturer manuals and well-known bike care sources; it has not been reviewed by a mechanic. You can confirm the information with reliable sources and with our store. When in doubt about safety, don’t ride.

When?

  • Riding in the evening or early morning
  • A dim light or a low-charge warning
  • Dirty, broken or missing reflectors

How?

  1. Switch on the white front and red rear light and check that they work and point the right way; the front light should not dazzle oncoming people.
  2. Charge rechargeable lights before the ride.
  3. Wipe the reflectors; have broken or missing ones replaced.
  4. Ring the bell; it should be clearly heard.

What does it depend on?

It depends on how much you ride in the dark and in traffic. Rules for lights and reflectors vary by country; ask us in store if unsure.
