Tyre pressure

The right pressure directly affects grip, comfort and the risk of flats.

This guide is compiled from manufacturer manuals and well-known bike care sources; it has not been reviewed by a mechanic. You can confirm the information with reliable sources and with our store. When in doubt about safety, don’t ride.

When?

  • The tyre squashes easily under your thumb
  • The bike feels heavy and slow
  • It has not been ridden for a few days

How?

  1. Find the recommended range on the tyre’s sidewall.
  2. Pump within that range with a gauge; nearer the lower end for lighter riders and rough surfaces.
  3. Use the pump head that fits your valve type.

What does it depend on?

How often depends on how much and where you ride, the weather, the component and the manufacturer’s instructions. Instead of a fixed schedule, look for the signs above.
